Health Advisory Omicron

Post Image The new variant of COVID-19 Omicron (B.1.1. 529) was detected for the first time in Indonesia on December 15, 2021.

The announcement was prompted by the Minister of Health as the country had to deal quickly to prevent a highly transmissible variant.

Patient Zero was first detected with having Omicron at the Wisma Atlet Jakarta. While on December 28, 2021, the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination Ministry of Health, dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi virtually announced a case of local transmission of the new variant of Omicron in Jakarta.

The presence of one locally transmitted case increased the number of positive confirmed cases of Omicron in Indonesia. It went up very quickly to 47. Thus, 46 cases were imported cases and 1 case was local transmission.

Know the symptoms:
  • Headaches
  • Cold
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat
  • Persistent cough
  • Fatigue
  • Itchy throat
  • Mild fever
  • Night sweat

While Omicron is more transmissible, do not panic! Stay alert and continue to strictly follow the health protocols.
  • Wear a mask
  • Keep a minimum distance of 2 m
  • Wash your hands
  • Reduce mobility
  • Stay away from crowded places
  • Get vaccinated.
Remember, even you have been vaccinated, the 5M health protocol must still be carried out in order to get optimal protection. Be careful for cold-like symptoms, get tested if you live or work around people who are at greater risk of developing this disease.
