Post Image We’ve heard this before. With the rainy season, comes the fruit season. Mangoes, durian, rambutan are favorite fruits of many and naturally, it can attract those pests we do not want to have – flies!

Our Pest Control experts shared with us that there are many types of flies.

Be aware of these:
1) Musca domestica: the house fly
2) Calliphora vornituria: blue fly
3) Fanna canicularis: latirine fly
4) Lucilla seritica: green fly

The house fly is the most dreaded one, often found in the organic, wet household waste and a disease carrier. It can transmit the disease because when they land on dirt and then onto our food or drink, it drops a variety of disease-causing microorganisms attached to its feet and its tiny hairs all over its body. It is invisible to our human eye but a fly can drop at least 125,000 germs on that one tiny spot!

Some of the diseases carried by flies are : diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, typhoid fever, anthrax, yaws, trachoma eye disease, hepatitis, intestibal worms, Tubercullosis germs (TB) and many more.

A female fly can produce about 150 to 200 eggs at once, while during its lifetime they can lay eggs as much as 5-6 times. How many flies can be flying around us if it is not prevented?

TMD takes pest prevention and control seriously.

You would have seen our pest control team not only performing routine pest control but making sure that wastes in residential and commercial areas are collected daily. These measures prevent potential breeding grounds of pests and keeps our environment clean and healthy.

Every month, information on the schedule of pest control in your area is sent to residents by email or Whatsapp. You may check the schedule in www.lippovillage.com or IG @lippovillage.com.

To prevent interference of flies in your home, take some action such as:
1) Indoor sanitation : make sure your home is clean from spilled food. As a rule, store food in fly-tight container (covered). Use a trap, bait and tools (battery operated or electric) to swat them away.
2) Outdoor sanitation : make sure the household waste/ wet garbage is placed or disposed in covered trash bins to prevent odor from escaping from the bin. Garbage and food spills or water used to wash fish or meat can attract flies.
3) Wastes from plants do not necessarily attract flies as it does not contain of protein, but it is still neccessary to disinfect the area where you place them before garden waste pick up.
4) Clean your pet cage regularly to prevent flies to breed.
5) Proofing system : adequate proofing system such as wire gauze mosquito installation on windows, vents are also good to have. Keep screen doors closed.

Maintain a clean home. Keep your surroundings tidy. Take these steps to prevent pests particularly flies to enter your home. It may be tiny but beware, a tiny fly may bring health problems for you and your family. Don’t take it for granted!
