However, let’s start with your responsibilities to your neighbourhood first. Sometimes pet owners tend to forget that when they choose to have a pet as a companion, responsibilities do not lie only towards the pet but to the neighbourhood as well.

1) Responsibility to your neighbourhood – failure to consider these will result in unharmonious relationship with your neighbours. Simple acts that your neighbours will appreciate are:
• Bring a plastic bag for your dog’s poop: it can be so annoying for others, especially when they smell or accidentally step on it. Clean up the waste and put inside the plastic bag.
• Put all the waste wrapped by plastic bag into your own waste bin, for everyone’s comfort.
• When you are taking your dog for a walk, make sure that it remains safe. Use a leash at least 2 meters long.
• Report to us when you see any violence by sending the picture to TMD@lippokarawaci.co.id. Your report will be kept confidential.


2) Responsibility to your pet – make sure that your pet enjoys the ‘five freedoms’ for animal welfare:
• Freedom from hunger and thirst, by ready access to fresh water and diet to maintain health and vigor.
• Freedom from discomfort, by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
• Freedom from pain, injury or disease, by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
• Freedom to express normal behaviour, by providing sufficient space, proper facilities or company of the animal’s own kind.
• Freedom from fear and distress, by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
