The beauty products that you buy usually have some labels on the package. Knowing the meaning of them will help you to check the product ingredient content and the process of how it is made.
Check out some of the following labels, so next time you buy the product you can easily decide whether it’s safe for your body as well as the environment:
Sulfate FreeThis label is usually included on the shampoo to say that the product does not contain sulfate or SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), a type of detergent that works to remove dirt from the hair and scalp. The problem is sulfate can make your hair dry and brittle and cause redness of the scalp.
Sodium FreeIn food products this means that per-serving size contains sodium less than 5 mg. It can also mean that salt is not added in the manufacturing process. If this label is on the shampoo, it means that the product does not contain sodium chloride. Like sulfate, sodium chloride can also irritate hair keratin and make strands of hair dry and rough.
Natural IngredientThis means the product contains ingredients derived from extraction of natural ingredients. However, USFDA, the agency that oversees food and medicine in the United States, has not yet regulated the strict nature of natural labelling on body care and beauty products, so this label can mean nothing or doesn’t necessarily affect health and the environment.
Natural FragranceThe aroma contained in this product comes from the extraction of natural ingredients
VeganThe product does not contain ingredients derived from animals and not tested on animals.
RecycleProducts using packaging that can be recycled. A good producer usually will receive product packaging back that has been used up for later recycling.
Sustainable DevelopmentThe product is made with attention to environmental sustainability and influences both socially and economically not only in the present but also in the future.
Non GMOGenetic modification or GMO is not only in food, but also in beauty care products. Non GMO labelled products mean that the product does not contain ingredients such as plants that have undergone genetic modifications.
After Opening PeriodDifferent from the expiration period, this label shows the product period can provide the best care after the packaging is opened.
