TMD Environment Takes Action.
Did you know that a vector is an organism that does not cause disease but spreads it by carrying pathogens from one host to another?
For example, the type of Aedes Aegypti mosquito acts as a vector of dengue fever. Other diseases caused by mosquitoes as vectors are malaria, filariasis, yellow fever, etc. Likewise, there are several diseases caused by insects and other intruders, such as diarrhea by flies and cockroaches. Toxoplasmosis - a disease originating from a cat virus is another example and very dangerous for pregnant women. Leptospirosis caused by urine of animals such as rats can affect humans through direct contact with the urine of infected animals or through water, soil or food contaminated with animal urine. This condition is most common in warm climates and usually also occurs after a catastrophic flood.
From the above samples, it is necessary to take preventive action and control vectors of insects and animals carrying environmental-based diseases in residential areas by reducing or eliminating their population.
There are several methods that can control the vector population or even eliminate them:1. Chemical control: this method is usually by using chemicals such as pesticides and rodenticides.
2. Physics-Mechanics Control: usually by utilizing the climate / season and the use of mechanical trap equipment.
3. Generic control: reducing vector population or animal pests by infertility.
4. Environmental Control: the safest and best way, such as cleaning up the living space or nest.
TMD takes routine measures to control disease vectors that may be present in the environment by implementing integrated pest and rodent control methods:
1. Monthly fogging and spraying with chemical based solutions to control or eliminate mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and other pests. TMD Health and Hygiene Department oversees the fogging and spraying of the outdoors in each of the residential cluster and public areas. Fogging is performed once a month only since constant fogging may reduce its effectivity on eliminating pests.
Check our IG @lippovillage or website: www.lippovillage.com to see the Pest Control Schedule in your area.
2. To control rodents, TMD uses chemical or mechanical methods by placing rodenticide bait as well as rat traps in some locations.
3. To control stray cat population, TMD uses a mechanical method by placing cat traps and generic control methods of infertility by working closely with authorised institutions.
The best approach, however, to take the ‘bite’ out of vector borne diseases is to take care of our environment.
Keep your surroundings clean at all times and remove areas that allow vectors to easily breed to limit their growth. Take out those areas where stagnant water allows mosquitoes to breed, for example and remove things you do not use anymore such as old car tires.
You can rely on TMD to make sure that your environment continues to be clean and healthy. But, it would be wonderful if you can help us clean up your area and together we can achieve our goal to make Lippo Village most liveable and lovable for our families!
