Post Image The Covid-19 pandemic has changed most of our plans, however life still continues and there is no reason why we should not celebrate Earth Day.

April 22nd is Earth Day and it is a special year marking its 50th Anniversary since it first celebrated in 1970. Now each year, more than 193 countries support Earth Day by actions, big and small, to raise awareness on environmental concerns such as climate change.

What actions can we take to show our solidarity with the rest of the world celebrating Earth Day while staying at home?

Staying home does not mean that you can’t do anything. If you want to care for the Earth more, and you want to take the time to celebrate Earth Day, these ideas might help you. Check it out, try some of them and have a great time when enjoying to helping the Earth to be what it deserves to be.

Here some ideas to support the Earth Day while staying home:

1. Start a garden. Digging your hand in the soil is good not only for your physical health, but also for your mental health. It’s never been easier (or more fun) to grow your own veggies. Developing you green thumb can save you money and reduce food waste. Even something as simple as a herb garden on your windowsill is a great start.

2. Consider making your yard an oasis for birds. You can place a bird feeder, put in a bird bath, install birdhouses. You’d be surprised who would come by to visit! Birds are more likely to come around when you make it comfortable for them.

3. Start a compost pile. Learn about composting and start to compose your food waste. It will reduce the amount of waste send to a landfill. When it decomposes, you will have enough fertilizer for your garden. (https://dlh.semarangkota.go.id/cara-pembuatan-kompos-rumahan-sederhana/).

4. Stop drinking bottled water. You can save a lot of plastic by stopping to drink regular single use plastic bottles water, choose alternative drinks and use your own glass or tumbler or stainless steel reusable water bottles.

5. Unplug appliances when not in use. Your household appliances are wasting energy even when they are not turned on. Instead of leaving your lamps, toasters, chargers plugged in, just do the small effort to unplug when you’re not using them. It’s the best way to maximize your energy efficiency.

6. Collect Rainwater. There’s so much use for this non-drinking water. Use for cleaning or watering plants.

7. Fix your leaky faucet. Even those tiny drops of water add up big time when it comes to your water bill. Tighten up a drippy faucet to cut down on the water you didn’t even realize you were consuming.

8. Give your home a “Green” makeover. You don’t have to install solar panels on your roof but little switches like buying energy-efficient light bulbs would help and for sure it will save your electrical bills.

9. Add plants to your home. Bringing a little greenery into your home can help regulate the temperature through the moisture they release into the air. This will help to reduce the energy required to heat and cool your home. And they look good and can boost your mood.

10. Go paperless. Think about how much paper you can save by getting bank statements and bills sent electronically and pay it same way. Everything is online these days including our IPKL and water billings and notifications. Do not forget to update or register your contact details to us.

These are just one of the many ways to celebrate and support the Earth Day, perhaps small steps but great impact towards protecting our only planet, Earth. Don’t just leave it to Earth Day. Implement in your day-to-day life and imagine just how much more we could do to take care of our environment every day during the year.
