The rainy season is now upon us. But well before the wet season, TMD undertakes its annual drain cleaning, apart from its monthly cleaning routine, ensuring that drain pipes are cleared of leaves, dust or any items that may block the flow of water into our storm water drains.
However, the unexpected can happen! In mid-November, we experienced heavy rainfall with a high intensity that certain locations in Lippo Village were inundated with water and the ground at some areas was less able to absorb the rainwater when it fell all at once. It did not take long before the water subsided but residents were inconvenienced with the water puddles that resulted and ensuing traffic as drivers slowed down.
Lippo Village area is built with a drainage system that separates rainwater and household waste water. It has sufficient green space to hold the water, such as soccer fields, golf courses and other open spaces, which is very supportive for flood control. In addition, there are several temporary ponds which can absorb the water, which are the seven lakes around the golf course, a temporary pond in Lippo Cyber Park and near Amartapura Apartments, as well as the pond along the edge of the Toll road at Lippo Village West.
To anticipate heavy downpours which may still happen during this raining season and prevent flooding, TMD continues to carry out the cleaning of storm water drains and sewerage drains, ensure that the water pumps and flood gates are in good working condition.
TMD pays special attention when heavy rain occurs and field officers are on standby working in tandem with TMD Emergency (911) officers who monitors Lippo Village 24/7. With a good flood control system and advance preparations underway, water puddles can recede within 10 to 30 minutes once the rain stops.
Your support and participation to help prevent flood in our city will go a long way. Much can be done by the residents, such as limiting paving or hard surfaces within the property, not covering the land with concrete or ceramic flooring. Paving the ground will reduce the capacity of the soil to absorb rain water and put extra stress on the drainage system. Overflowing rainwater that cannot be accommodated can cause flooding in your area.
Together, let's keep Lippo Village flood-free.
